It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Professor Robert Pijnenborg (27 May 1945–19 August 2025), Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Medicine, KU Leuven.

Professor Pijnenborg was a member of the inaugural Scientific Advisory Board of the Loke Centre for Trophoblast Research, where his guidance helped shape the early direction of the Centre and he continued to offer support and advice over the years.

Professor Graham Burton, the inaugural Director of the Loke CTR, paid tribute to Professor Pijnenborg, stating: “He was a highly respected scientist whose name is synonymous with meticulous observations on trophoblast invasion and spiral artery remodelling in the human and great apes.”

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
