Dr Ruoyu Miao is a Research Associate in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Cambridge, jointly affiliated with the MRC Biostatistics Unit. Her research lies at the intersection of biostatistics, machine learning, and maternal-fetal medicine, with a focus on developing advanced joint modelling approaches for complex biomedical data.
She completed her PhD in Statistics at the University of Manchester, where her doctoral research focused on joint modelling methods for multi-outcome data, particularly the development of time-varying joint latent class models and covariance structures. Following her PhD, she held a postdoctoral position in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Manchester, where she worked on joint models for mean and variance structures, including applications to cardiovascular risk prediction.
Dr Miao subsequently worked as a biostatistician in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Cambridge, jointly affiliated with the MRC Biostatistics Unit. Her research focused on maternal serum proteomics and metabolomics, using statistical modelling and machine learning to identify biomarkers and predictive signatures associated with pregnancy complications, including pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction, and gestational diabetes. Her work combines large-scale molecular data with clinical information to improve early risk prediction and understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying adverse pregnancy outcomes.
