Research

I am currently studying the association between maternal BMI and placental biomarkers in early pregnancy. The aim is to investigate whether maternal nutritional status—proxied by BMI—influences placental development and function, as reflected by biomarkers such as β-hCG, PAPP-A, and GDF15. This project builds on my PhD research, which focused on clinical and biochemical factors affecting pregnancy outcomes in women with diabetes or obesity, with particular emphasis on placental function.

With extensive experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, medical education, and health systems research in Afghanistan, I am now working on establishing my career in the UK.
