Hommage to Joan Hunt- After raising her son, she returned to school, earning her terminal degree from the University of Kansas at age 49 and eventually became one of the world's foremost reproductive immunology scientists

We are saddened to hear of the passing of Joan Hunt on April 20th 2019.

Joan was a University Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas, specialising in reproductive immunology. She made several seminal discoveries regarding the role of the maternal immune system in regulating events during trophoblast invasion into the placental bed in early pregnancy. Joan was a great colleague, mentor and friend, who served and supported the placental community indefatiguably, in particular as President of IFPA. We were honoured when she spent a period of sabbatical leave as a Visiting Scholar at St John's College in 1999. We miss her cheerful presence and intellectual contributions.
