Research

I am an MPhil student in Biological Sciences on the Reproduction and Embryogenesis pathway, conducting my research project under the supervision of Dr Geraldine Jowett. My project focuses on the role of biomechanical forces in gametogenesis and more specifically, I am investigating if endocytosis is involved in the sex determination of germ cells during embryo development. On a personal level, I am passionate about advancing assistive reproductive technologies, particularly in relation to the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, my academic interests extend to immunology in pregnancy, with a specific focus on the interaction between the pregnant person’s immune system and the embryo; I would like to explore the mechanisms behind pre-eclampsia and the underlying causes of this pregnancy-related condition. Therefore, this is what I have decided to write about as part of the extended essay portion of my MPhil; I will be studying the current knowledge on the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia and the possibilities for prediction and prevention of the disease.
